Mayor says Topgolf could mean economic and development improvements

Ridgeland will soon be offering a new activity for residents of the Jackson metro area, with Topgolf announcing its new location.

Topgolf announced on July 20 that it would expand operations into Mississippi beginning with the Jackson area. The location will be in Ridgeland near Interstate 55, northeast of Renaissance in Colony Park.

The announcement came shortly after competitor GolfSuites announced the opening of its fourth location within the company in Madison. The location, which is expected to open early next year, will be located near I-55 and Parkway East.

“We are thrilled to join the Greater Jackson community and look forward to welcoming those who live in and around the capital,” said Chris Callaway, Director of Development for Topgolf. “As a company focused on getting more people to play golf, we believe the Jackson area is the perfect place to launch our growth in the region.”

The two-level Topgolf venue will feature 60 air-conditioned outdoor hitting bays, chef-prepared food, premium beverages, music and year-round programming. It will be equipped with Topgolf’s exclusive Toptracer technology to accurately trace the flight path of golf balls. This enables Topgolf games, such as Angry Birds and Jewel Jam. This is the same technology seen on TV when watching major golf tournaments.

“I am very pleased to have the number one venue of its kind in Ridgeland,” said Mayor Gene McGee. “Ridgeland is an established destination for sporting and entertainment events, and Topgolf will fit perfectly into the active lifestyle of our community.”

Topgolf will also create jobs in the region by hiring approximately 200 Topgolf associates.

“Topgolf will provide citizens with an employment opportunity in a quality work environment,” McGee said.

McGee said it would also bring sales tax to the town and provide Ridgeland with another map to draw on to attract visitors and enjoy what the town has to offer.

“Topgolf’s economic advantage is a good cycle for us,” McGee said. “Not only will this bring in more sales taxes, but it will entice other businesses and developers to come to Ridgeland, allowing further growth for the town.”

The global sports and golf entertainment company has yet to announce a timeline for the new location.

“This is the first business of its kind in America and bringing them here is a perfect fit with Ridgeland’s exceptional business community and active lifestyles of our citizens,” McGee said. “Quality developments such as Topgolf allow the City of Ridgeland to provide the highest quality of life for our citizens while keeping taxes low.”
