BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Florida Space Coast Economic Development Commission received a $79,200 Defense Reinvestment Grant to bolster its efforts at Patrick Space Force Base, including EDC’s Space Coast Salutes initiative, the US Chamber Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes program, and the Veteran’s Florida Skill Bridge.

The Defense Reinvestment Grant program provides support for community activities that protect existing military installations. These grants are awarded to applicants who represent a local government with a military installation that could be affected by federal actions.

“EDC understands the positive impact our military installations and their personnel have on our community and our economy,” said Lynda L. Weatherman, President and CEO of EDC.

“As the Great American Defense Community of 2022, the Space Coast continues our legacy of strong military support, and EDC is proud to contribute to this distinctive honor.”

Local military installations have a total economic impact of over $1.2 billion. This includes nearly 11,000 core employees and nearly 5,200 indirect jobs.

“I am proud to continue to invest in Florida’s military communities and to uphold my administration’s commitment to making Florida the most military-friendly state in the nation,” Governor DeSantis said. “In Florida, we appreciate those who protect and serve our nation and the sacrifices their families make. That’s why we strive to provide tangible support that improves military lives and communities for generations to come.
