China-Punjab cooperation can push economic ties to new heights: Chinese CG

LAHORE: The newly appointed Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, Zhao Shiren, said on Monday that collaboration in various sectors of the economy between Punjab and China can push economic ties to new heights, promising that the consulate China in Lahore will cooperate fully to accelerate business-to-business engagement for industrial growth.

The Chinese consul-general voiced these views during his visit to the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT), where issues of mutual concern, promotion of bilateral relations and boosting investment by Chinese enterprises were discussed.

PBIT CEO Ahmer Mallick warmly welcomed the Chinese CG and showed him around different wings of PBIT. The consul general said China wants stable and sustainable development in Punjab, adding that agricultural technology, social sector, manpower training and industrial development are the main areas at this stage of the CPEC. “China will help Punjab in the development of industrial parks, technology transfer and capacity building,” he added.

Zhao Shiren reiterated that cooperation between Punjab and China in agriculture, technical education, animal husbandry and tourism should be strengthened to explore the real potential.

The Chinese Consul General also praised the performance of the China Office of the Punjab Investment and Trade Board, citing that the PBIT plays an important role in facilitating Chinese investors working on investment projects in Punjab.

Meanwhile, Ahmer Mallick said the incumbent government is focused on promoting export-oriented industry progress and import substitution for sustained economic growth. adding that it will boost industrial cooperation, in addition to strengthening the bilateral economic partnership between the two countries.

Mallick said PBIT, as an investment promotion agency, facilitated potential investors in every possible way and played a pivotal role in enhancing and attracting investment.
